“Hands Up” has a high-energy outlaw-Americana feel, telling a story about a con-woman who travels from place to place and stays undetected under the light of day. She sometimes worries that she’s gone too far or has spent too much time living a lie, and her risky lifestyle comes to an end with her hands up. Driving acoustic guitar, melodic slide guitar, and powerhouse vocals work together to keep up the lively Americana-blues vibe of the song.
lyrics
Two months on and two months off
There are no signs, that this will stop
A sinking spell, no time to waste
Always looking left, avoid mistakes
This time, all on, the line
The river cuts right through my soul
Years of highs and deadly lows
Sadly smiling, gentle blow
Endless years and time to go
I stay, my way, no way
Daylight’s fading
There’s no debating
That I’ve spent too much time
In this lie
I’m in, I’m caught, hands up, let’s talk
I walk around with bills to pay
My middle name is washed away
I got no children to carry me on
As I play my part, new city, new con
It’s on, I’m gone, too long
Daylight’s fading
There’s no debating
That I’ve spent too much time
In this lie
I’m in, I’m caught, hands up, let’s talk
My mother thinks I’m crazy
All these happenings and maybe’s
My father thinks I’ve gone too far
But he doesn’t know half the things
I’ve burned in tar
In my name, forever, a guessing game
Oh now I walk around with bills to pay
My middle name is washed away
Got no children to carry me on
As I play my part, new city, new con
It’s on, too long, I’m gone
Daylight’s fading
There’s no debating
That I’ve spent too much time
In this lie
I’m in, I’m caught, hands up, let’s talk
I’m in, I’m caught, hands up, let’s talk
I’m in, I’m caught, hands up, let’s talk
